JACKSON STAFF REACH DIZZY HEIGHTS FOR CHARITY
6th May 2008
Staff at a local Builder’s Merchant branch proved that they had heads for heights after abseiling 120ft down the side of a local building to raise money for their nominated charity.
Several staff at Jackson Building Centre’s Splisby branch on Reynard St, along with 300 other volunteers, took part in the charity abseil at Woolworths on Bridge Street in Peterborough to raise money for The Stroke Association.
Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating strokes in people of all ages. It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its rehabilitation and support services.
The Jackson team braved very windy weather conditions to make their abseils and raised a combined sum of £1300 for the charity.
Debbie Woods, a member of Jackson team, overcame her fear of heights to take part, she said:”I have always been scared of heights, so I didn’t think I would be able to do it, but then with support and encouragement from the rest of the team, I plucked up some dutch courage and just went for it. I am really glad to have done it and to have helped the team to raise money for the charity.”
