JACKSON GOES GREEN WITH SHRED-IT

10th January 2008

JACKSON BUILDING CENTRES is stepping up its efforts to be more environmentally friendly by launching its ‘Get Caught Green Handed Campaign’ in conjunction with Shred-it - the world leading on-site document destruction company.

The Lincoln-based builders’ merchant has entered into a three-month trial with Shred-it to manage its waste paper and increase recycling levels. It is expected that the contract will be made permanent if the trial is successful.

A number of grey Shred-it consoles have been delivered to 5 of Jackson’s branches at Lincoln, Grantham, Scunthorpe, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Stamford and Oakham. In a bid to be more environmentally friendly, Jackson’s staff is being encouraged to fill the consoles with waste paper rather than just putting it in the bin. The consoles will then be collected by Shred-it and the paper will be recycled.

Simon Jackson, joint managing director commented: “Improving environmental performance is a key objective for Jackson. The threat posed by climate change is now constantly in the news, as more and more people recognise the urgent need to protect the environment.”

He continued: “Adopting a good waste management practice can make a very positive contribution and this latest recycling campaign is a good start towards reducing Jackson’s carbon footprint.”

Did you know? Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution when it’s made than if it was made from raw materials. A staggering 12.5 million tonnes of paper and cardboard are used each year in the UK.
