DAREDEVIL DUO SKYDIVE FOR CHARITY

1st September 2007

DAREDEVIL duo, Dave Stewart, light side manager and Dave Cole, former heavy side manager at Oakham Branch proved that the sky was the limit, when they plunged from a light aircraft to raise money for a children’s charity.

The brave pair made their tandem skydive from 13,000ft at Sibson Airfield, Stibbington, near Peterborough, in order to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Make-A-Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.
The charity was founded in the UK in June 1986 and, since then, the charity has granted over 4,400 wishes. At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions and their aim is to grant 21 wishes a week by the year 2010.
Dave Stewart said he enjoyed the skydive despite his fear of heights:
“I was really excited and slightly apprehensive at the same time. When you are sitting on the ledge of the plane waiting to take the plunge a thousand thoughts go through your head, but then the fear leaves you and the adrenaline kicks in, it was a great experience, I would highly recommend it!
The money that Dave and I have raised will hopefully enable the charity to make a couple of children’s wishes come true, whether that’s to be a princess for a day, to meet their favourite celebrity or to visit Father Christmas in Lapland. Making a child’s wish come true will hopefully provide memories for the family that last a lifetime. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us.”
The pair raised an impressive £2,000 for the charity and they are already planning their next challenge.
