STAFF at a builders’ merchant branch have presented an impressive £500 to charity after dressing down for the day at work.

The event was organised by Sue Theobald at the Lincoln branch of Jackson Building Centres and the money has been donated to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, which the company has supported for several years.

Sue joined Jackson’s two years ago as a management trainee and now works as decorating and ironmongery supervisor at the busy Canwick Road branch. She has played a big part in encouraging her colleagues to raise funds for local good causes during her time at Jackson’s and said staff were always keen to get involved. Previous ventures have included painting and helping to re-stock the library of a local primary school and donning fancy dress to raise money for a children’s hospice.

“We held a similar event last year and I wasn’t sure how popular it would be second time round but so people asked about it that I realised it would be well supported and it made sense to do it again. At least 100 people dressed down for the day and we always have a good giggle,” said Sue. “Everyone donated their loose change and we raised £250 which Jackson’s then matched bringing the total to £500.”

All of Jackson’s 20 branches throughout the East Midlands are committed to supporting local charities and events when possible. Jackson’s marketing manager Colin Bartleet explained: ”Helping the communities in which we work is an important part of Jackson’s philosophy and we donate a considerable amount of money and materials each year to a wide variety of projects. We may not be able to support everyone who approaches us but try to contribute where we can. It’s great to see that so many employees share this approach and regularly organise their own events to help good causes.”

More than 40 staff throughout the company are currently in training for the annual Lincoln 10K Road Race which takes place on April 2 and of which Jackson’s is the main sponsor this year.

Ends.
