COLLEAGUES DIG DEEP TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED
16th November 2005
COLLEAGUES at Grimsby’s Jackson Building Centre have backed a bizarre bid by boss Steve Marris to sit in a bath of custard to raise cash for charity.
They are sponsoring their branch manager to bathe in custard to boost funds for the BBC Children in Need Appeal and challenging him to stay put for at least an hour and a half. And if that’s enough all this will be witnessed by supermarket shoppers as the fundraising bid is all set to take place at the busy Asda store in Grimsby.
Steve was asked by Asda’s if Jackson’s would lend the store two baths for this special event to raise funds for the BBC appeal. He not only agreed to donate the baths from the builders’ merchants on Grime Street but also proceeded to volunteer to take part too.
“How on earth I got involved in this, I don’t know,” laughed Steve, “but it’s for a very good cause and I’m hoping to raise a considerable amount of money.”
A member of staff from the Asda store will also be raising money for the appeal by sitting in the second bath during the event on the afternoon of 18th November.
Last year the BBC Children in Need appeal raised more than £34million, which went towards helping children and young people in the UK.
“I am looking forward to the event,” added Steve. “Thanks to support from colleagues and customers, who have agreed to sponsor me, I’m hoping that we will raise lots of cash for the appeal and have lots of fun in the process.”
