A BUILDERS’ merchants branch which opened modern new premises earlier this year is competing for a top industry award.
The Swinton branch of Jackson Building Centres has been nominated for the title of Best Builders’ Merchants Showroom in the Builders’ Merchants Awards for Excellence.
Jackson’s had traded from a site at Rowms Lane since 1991 but invested more than £2 million in a new store after the original buildings became outdated. The branch now features extended timber and hire departments and extensive kitchen and bathroom showrooms with working models of the latest products on display.
Assistant branch manager Gary McGowan said a lot of work had gone into planning the showrooms and customer feedback had been very positive. “We’re very busy and the showrooms have attracted a lot of interest,” he said. “They have been designed as individual room settings so people can get a proper idea of how a particular kitchen or bathroom will look and they can see how best to utilise the space they have available.
“The general response from customers has been that the displays are much better and more professional than people expect to find at a builders’ merchants,” he added.
The Awards for Excellence, now in their fourth year, are organised by the magazine Builders Merchants News to provide a platform for the industry to recognise its high achievers. This year’s competition has attracted hundreds of entries competing in 14 categories.
A shortlist will be drawn up by the managing editor and publishers of Builders’ Merchant News and a judging panel of leading merchant industry figures will then choose finalists for each category. The winners and runners-up will be announced at a presentation night in London in November.
Judges of the best showroom category will take into account design and presentation as well as any innovations or initiatives used to maximise the effectiveness of product displays.
Organiser David Wilson said: These awards are a tangible recognition of the professionalism that is so prominent in the builders’ merchants industry and reward good business practice, the achievement of goals and proven success in service and innovation.”
