INSTALLING a new bathroom is one of the most effective ways of improving your home. Research has consistently shown that upgrading this particular room is one of the few projects that will actually pay off if you later decide to sell the property.
Likewise, if you’re building a home from scratch then an up to date bathroom is equally important as cutting corners can reflect badly on the rest of the property. Add to that the enjoyment of having a well-planned and attractive bathroom to use each day and it makes sense to invest some time and effort in getting the best products you can afford.
With the wide range of suites, showers and accessories now on the market, it doesn’t have to cost the earth to achieve a practical solution but it’s worth shopping around and getting some expert advice. A good starting point is your local builders’ merchant, some of which can supply all the items you need for the project.
Lincoln-based Jackson Building Centres has long since recognised the importance of having a modern and well thought out bathroom and has extensive showrooms in its stores. Customers can see products displayed in individual room settings, some of which include working models. They feature products from leading manufacturers in the bathroom industry including Utopia and Ideal Standard along with a wide range of accessories and wall and floor tiles.
Carl Fogg, Lincoln showroom manager, said bathroom upgrades were still popular and customers wanted products of all specifications. “We try to cater for all requirements from luxury bathroom suites with special features to more typical bathroom products,” he explained. “Some of our suites are very cutting edge in terms of design and innovation but there is also a demand for traditional products that combine quality with value for money.”
With people leading increasingly busy lives, they don’t always have time to visit half a dozen stores to find the items they want for a single project which is one of the reasons why Jackson’s aims to provide a one-stop shop. Supplying everything customers need for a particular venture has proved effective and, according to Carl, giving people a chance to see products on display in the appropriate setting is both practical and customer friendly.
“It does make a difference if people can see examples of fully fitted bathrooms complete with tiles, towel rails, cabinets and mirrors,” he explained. “That way, they can see the items at first-hand and know how they’ll look in their own home. We often find that people will choose exactly the same accessories and tiles as those they’ve seen in a particular display.”
Products are also becoming increasingly sophisticated and Jackson’s sees no reason why builders’ merchants shouldn’t move with the times. You can pick up a luxury whirlpool bath or a hi-tech plugless sink at its stores just as easily as you can buy a standard, good quality suite.
“There was a time when customers looking for bathroom suites and accessories wouldn’t expect a builders’ merchant to have much of a selection but that’s no longer the case,” said Carl. ”We cater for all customers and put a lot of effort into our showrooms.”
As well as offering a variety of items to suit all tastes and budgets,
Jackson’s has experienced staff at each of its 20 branches to advise on products and give guidance about practical issues. A free design service is available and some stores also offer installation.
Fitted bathrooms are particularly popular at present but the builders’ merchant can also furnish shower rooms or en suites and even supplies Jacuzzis. A broad choice of colours and finishes is available along with styles ranging from the very traditional to the ultra modern.
So don’t be daunted by the prospect of installing a new bathroom or shower, just worry about being spoilt for choice!
