BUILDERS’ MERCHANT MAKES KEY APPOINTMENTS

30th August 2005

TWO long-serving employees have been promoted to key positions at a builders’ merchant branch in Gainsborough.

The internal appointments at Jackson Building Centres further illustrate the company’s commitment to encouraging career progression among its staff. Earlier this year, former sales representative Gary Speck took over as manager of the Gainsborough branch and has now been joined by Steve Beacock as assistant manager.

Steve, 41, joined the company in 1988 as a yard assistant at the Gainsborough branch becoming yard foreman the following year. In 1997 he progressed to the position of building materials yard supervisor and was promoted to the post of building materials manager later that same year.

Steve, who lives in Gainsborough, said he had enjoyed his first weeks as part of the store’s new management team: “I’ve always been at this branch and have worked alongside Gary for some time,” he said. “My position now involves overseeing the whole depot rather than one particular area but it’s still a hands on job which I like,” he explained.

The second appointment is that of Chris Molson, 55, who has been promoted to timber manager following the retirement of Jim Payne. Chris’s career with Jackson’s spans more than two decades and he originally joined the branch as a lorry driver. He then worked as a sales assistant and was later promoted to the position of transport manager.

Chris assisted Jim when the timber department was established at the Corringham Road branch several years ago and he has been heavily involved in developing that side of the business.

Chris, who lives in Beckingham, said the department was very well run by his predecessor and he hoped to continue its success.

Jackson’s operations director Roger Francis said the appointments were an excellent example of staff progressing within the company and wished both men every success in their new roles.
