What Is Partnering?

Partnering is a label used for a variety of innovative approaches to managing relationships between organisations in construction.

These all have one thing in common; an intention to move beyond the limitations of traditional projects to where long term supply relationships develop.

The Latham, Rethinking Construction, Accelerating Change and Modernising Construction reports all concluded that the UK construction industry was wasteful and inefficient, resulting in low profit levels and lack of customer focus.

Rethinking Construction Report:

“...The industry must replace competitive tendering with long-term relationships based on clear measurement of performance in quality and efficiency...”.

National Audit Office

The National Audit Office stated that 70% of all publicly procured projects were over time, and or over budget. “Experience has shown that acceptance of the lowest price bid does not provide value for money in either the final cost of construction or the through-life and operational costs.”
